Recruiting the best candidates


Over the last two and a half years, I've interviewed a fair number of candidates for various roles and have gone through hundreds of CVs manually.

Whether I'm speaking to a recent grad or an experienced consultant, I focus on three areas:

1. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 is an obvious one. It's important for us to make sure that each candidate is aligned with our firm, and that each candidate's expertise is in line with our client's expectations of us.

2. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 is extremely valuable to us because we look for candidates who see us as more than just a job. We encourage analysts to challenge our ways of working during their internships, and we encourage our managers and senior managers to actively participate in the growth of our firm. Our Employee Share Ownership Plan gives every team member the opportunity to hold a stake in the business after their probationary period.

3. 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 has more to do with soft skills and emotional intelligence. Do candidates care about our vision, mission, and values, and do they genuinely care about making a positive impact during their time with us?

Bottom line: I want prospective new joiners to work 'with us', not just 'for us'.
